Hello NorCal FLL Challenge Teams, 

Thank you for your patience while we had to reconfigure the team roster submission process. We are happy to announce registration dates will be open for the following:
– November 8th at 7pm for December Qualifier Tournaments.
– November 16th at 7pm for January Qualifier Tournaments.
Please make sure that you complete all of the requirements at least 2 days before the opening date, since it can take us a few days to review your inputs.
Do not send Playing At Learning your team roster via email. Kindly upload them in your forms.
There is no need to notify us when you complete your submission. The teams status page will auto-update when you hit submit.

Qualifying Tournament Dates and Registration

We are happy to announce that the Qualifier Tournament dates are as follows:
December 5, 6, 12th
  • Registration for these dates will open  on  October 29th at 7pm.
January 9,16,17,23, 24th
  • Registration for these dates will open  on  November 5th at 7pm.
What can you do to help get ready for registration (You can find detailed instructions for registration here)?
  • Find your team on the 2020 team list, click on your team status and double check the following items are complete (All items must be complete before your team is eligible for registration):
    • Two head coaches must have passed  their YPP screening and signed their consent and release forms.
    • Be sure your entire team is on your FIRST Dashboard  roster, and their parents have signed their consent and release forms through FIRST.  Click here for a detailed step by step guide.
    • Fill out the NorCal Team Info Sheet
    • Pay your Registration Fee
  • Compile some digital pictures of your team that can be shared during the event
  • Record a  2 minute video introducing your team. This videos will act as your virtual pit area. It can be edited and will not be used in evaluating or judging the team in any official way.
Our events will be ALL ONLINE and will be hosted on a virtual platform. We will have an opening and closing ceremony and teams will have a 30 minute consolidated judging session as well as 3 Robot Game rounds, 2.5 min each. Please know the staff is working tirelessly to replicate the live tournament experience for your teams and we appreciate your patience.

Additional registration details will be sent out next week via our NorCalFLL-announce Google Group,  If you have not joined the  NorCalFLL-announce Google Group, please do so as we use this group for all of our communication.

We hope you and your teams are as excited as we are for our  qualifying tournaments! Remember,  most of what your team will gain from the program is already happening, in all the time they spent learning, growing and working together.

Dual Lock, Additional Challenge Mats, and Consent and Release Forms

  • Additional RePLAYSM Challenge mats available.

This season, teams will be able to purchase up to an additional 5 RePLAY Challenge mats so team members can work on strategy and programming independently. The mat does not contain the LEGO® mission models. Registered teams will be able to purchase optional, additional Challenge mats beginning October 16 for $25 USD per mat, plus shipping, by logging into their account on firstinspires.org.

  • Dual Lock Update
    After a slight delay, FIRST will begin sending teams replacement dual lock this week. Every team that has purchased a Challenge set will receive an additional piece of dual lock. Teams should expect to receive the dual lock within 2 weeks.
  • Updated Consent and Release Forms

We have updated the FIRST Consent and Release form required for the 2020-2021 season to better meet the needs and safety of all participants. All lead 1 and 2 coaches, mentors, volunteers, and parents or legal guardians of youth team members must complete the recently updated form dated September 9, 2020 to meet season participation requirements. You complete the updated form by logging into your FIRST Dashboard.  Please review the Youth Registration Overview with Q and A (1) for more information.

 

Congratulations to Richmond Police Activities League

2020 RePLAY, Latest News, Resources

We are happy to announce that Richmond Police Activities League: In partnership with Salesian Boys and Girls Club, the City of Richmond Community Services Department, and Manifikio afterschool program at Nystrom Elementary, has been awarded the FIRST 2020 STEM Equity Community Innovation Grant. 

Their project will establish five new FIRST LEGO League Challenge teams and support one existing team. We are looking forward to seeing what they do this RePLAY season!

 

Extension of FLL Challenge Season

In light of the recent announcement from FIRST about extending the 2020-2021 event season, and keeping in mind our NorCal teams that have been impacted by the wildfires and the heatwaves on top of dealing with the pandemic, we would like to share some new updates for our region. We have mentioned in the RePLAY Challenge Kick-off our season will look different as our events will be held remotely (all online) using virtual platforms, however please know that the Playing at Learning staff is dedicated to making it a memorable one. As we navigate this uncertain time and try to accommodate our community needs, we appreciate your patience and your collaboration. Our proposed timeline for the 2020-2021 RePLAY Challenge is as follows;
November: Practice Tournaments
Training and practice with online event environment
December- January: Qualifier Tournaments 
Official, remote (all online) qualifier events
February: Championship Tournament(s)
Official, remote (all online) championships events
March- June: Spring Season
Unofficial and possible additional official events
Looking forward to celebrating with NorCal FLL Challenge teams and finding innovative ways to proceed with a fun and safe season.
